Re: 2024 0TX1 Pecan Plantation Texas Fly-In

It was a fantastic event. Learned a bunch, met more members of the Lancair community, and had a nice flight from Truckee CA, stopping over in Santa Fe, where I'd never been. Here's a pic of the Utah Canyons on the return to CA. Let's do it again.

Re: Lancairs are Magic Carpets

Two and half years ago, I finished my ES, with superb assistance at the end from Steve Lorentzen on the hull, and from Matt Brannon and his guys Thomas and Manuel at Flight Metrics on the panel and prep for fist flight. Can’t say enough good things about all of you! In 2 1/2 years, I’ve flown my mag...

"Nicest/Easiest/Relaxing Flying Airplane I've Ever Flown"

I love rightfully positive posts about Lancairs that I see from experienced pilots. The following is from the BeechTalk list (great list BTW) from a pilot who used to own a IVP and has graduated to Citations. He bought an Extra 300 and found it challenging to land. He said it made the IV seem tame, ...

Re: Does the ES have any "areas of concern" for my 1st condition inspection

On "shimmy": I noticed something a bit like shimmy (minor) in my ES on landing and occasionally on taxiing that disturbed me, and my commercial instructor observed that application of the right brake affected it. Sure enough, my right gear receptacle had just a bit of play, so we stuffed s...

Re: Air-Oil Separator Time?

BTW, where I said “Andair” above, I meant”Airwolf,” the larger and most expensive (and widely certified) Air-oil separator.

Happy and safe flying,
Dan

Air-Oil Separator Time?

I have a 10:1 compression IO550N. My dipstick is about 1 quart low when I put in 7 quarts, meaning it reads 6 (actually a bit under) after putting 7 in the sump. It reads about 5 when I put 6 in, just over 4 when I put in 5, etc. This is following an oil change. I've measured this several times. Whi...

Re: Ice, Ice, and More Ice ... Can We Take Positive Steps?

Today was a perfect example of the value of even non-fiki deice in our Lancairs. I live in Truckee, which is in a valley surrounded by mountains. It's been socked in for 4 days, fog in the am that normally lifts, but it hasn't been lifting due this this warm moist El Nino that is hitting CA this yea...

Glide planning for Bahammas Trip

Hi all, I'm thinking of flying to the Bahamas, first Nassau, since Laura has a gig there. I'm rather neurotic about planning landing sites in the event of an engine out, and it appears to me easy to fly high enough to glide to an airport if the route is KPBI MYGF MYNN (West Palm Beach to Freeport to...

Re: ES Performance differences with Hartzell and MT props?

I’m about a quart per 4-5 hours. It seems to blow out anything over 4 indicated, which is actually 5 in the sump (I measured), with much of that quart seemingly blown on the belly,, which is annoying. If you read the COPA list, they have the same issue. I’d like to find a way to stop blowing oil on ...
