I have replacement units being machined right now. Supposed to ship in a few days.

Re: Crankshaft failure data points - large bore continentals.

Dave, Continental has a minimum inertia requirement for propellers. Hartzell isn’t able to supply a composite prop for the Legacy because the inertia requirement would make the diameter too large. The regulatory side is a little fuzzier. There is nothing to stop you from installing a prop that doesn...

Re: IV-P Best Glide Speed Testing

Rock, This topic came up several years ago. Bob Pastusek had posted his numbers. They looked much better. I suspect it is tied to differences in governed rpm. For a while Lancair was selling governors that had a very restricted rpm range. posted by Bob back in June 2011 My IV-P has a glide ratio (at...

Re: IV-P Best Glide Speed Testing

I suspect the propeller rpm is still quite high even-though the control is pulled all the way out. I would have expected a glide ratio between 15 and 20 on the IV.

Re: IV-P Best Glide Speed Testing

What was the propeller rpm? The prop is a huge drag source, the lower the rpm, the lower the drag. In some cases the lowest rpm limited by design, in other cases it is an adjustment issue.

Re: RE: Repair or Replace Cowling for Lancair 360 MKII

The plenum/diffuser set-up won't fit an original cowling. The inlets are set back too far (relative to the spinner) among other things.

What is the nature of the damage? That will help answer the repair/replace question.
Have any pics?

Re: Does anyone have diagrams or plans or photos of ESCO nose strut?

What was the fluid level? Normally the damper is always submerged. If fluid level gets low, it can pull in some air.

Re: ES Performance differences with Hartzell and MT props?

I am far from an aerodynamicist, but my observations are the MT blades nearly always have a substantially thicker airfoil profile. In comparison, the 5 blade composite Hartzell on Evos and Epics is actually thinner than the metal alternative. Those composite props are also the most efficient props ...

Re: LOBO Training & Fatalities

Tom, Is there enough of a sample size to break down the non-fatals by cause and see any trends? I was involved in the review of all 2-seat Lancair accidents a few years ago. You had everything from not qualified/shouldn't be flying to not being aware of required maintenance to flying with known defi...
