Re: Tow Bar Bracket

Frangible pins are probably more of a concern if one typically uses a tug. Less of a concern for two-seaters. Are the four-place models damaging struts from towing and exceeding turn limits?

Re: Tow Bar Bracket

Hey Chris, (or anybody else), Do you have any idea why the tow pins on Lancairs are sized the way they are? The tow pins are larger then the universal tow bars used at many FBOs requiring adaptors for or modifications to the tow bars. Additionally the tow pins on many aircraft, Bonanza & Barons...

New style hydraulic cylinder endcaps

These end caps replace the older 'washer' type. These washers had a tendency to bend over time. On a few occasions the cylinders have come apart after the snap ring worked its way out. The new style is stiffer and physically traps the snap ring. more details are in this post: https://lancairlive.com...

Re: Aro-tek hydraulic cylinder

Gary, It looks like you are missing the shaft seal. This link might be useful in general for cylinder work. https://www.n91cz.net/Hydraulics/Rebuilding_Lancair_Hydraulic_Cylinders.pdf Note that I now use ball cylinder hones on cylinders. The seals are available from many outlets. I have used www.the...

Strut Flange Brace

Originally the flange on an ESCO strut was held tight solely with Loctite. There was a roll pin installed, but these were more for alignment than security. If the Loctite ever failed in a shimmy event, the roll pin would simply shear. They are very brittle and are far to small too resist the forces ...

Re: Weight savings with Carbon Pushrods

Chris, great writeup. What do you expect will change for control forces for pilots while flying? Most of the force a pilot feels is aerodynamic - and the bob-weight on a 320/360. A lighter weight tube will reduce the inertia of the system a bit, but I don't think a pilot would be able to detect the...
