Re: Lower Drag Link replacement kit

John, I'm pretty sure I've sent the referenced article to you before, but in any case, I'm sending it directly...can't attach it to this post for some reason... I also thought we upgraded your bronze bushings to stainless steel a couple of years ago after your nose gear collapse during ground towing...

Re: IV-P Flat Tires

Rock
I agree w Ryan. Pressure is important.
I use Goodyear Flt Custom III’s & tubes on my Lancair IV-P, inflated to 60 psi. I’ve had a flat nose tire, but no main wheel flats in 16 years/2600 hours.

Re: Swinging the gear

Konstantin Your comment of “scary” pretty much describes my experience over the years with jacking an IV-P for a gear swing. Mine needs to have the fuselage 42” off the floor at the jack point to clear the swinging main gear. As Dave Mandel suggests, I’ve improved the stability of the jacked up airp...

Re: Lancair ES - Steam Gauges to Dynon

Ryan The ADSB system communicates via ground-based stations (as opposed to GPS). Your system will work more reliably, and with fewer "lost signals" if you mount the antenna on the bottom of the airplane...as far away from any transmitting antennae as reasonable. A half inch hole in your ai...

Re: My IO550N-19B Top End Overhaul

George If the oil pressure is good, a top overhaul can work well, and is much less expensive. IMHO, the critical step is re-tightening the overhauled cylinders. NO paint on the bolts/cylinder clamps at the mating surfaces; follow the Continental manual exactly on tightening sequence/procedure. E.G. ...

Re: Leaning to Peak TIT -50 / -75

I agree with what JC and Ryan posted. Two additional points. The Continental engine Mx training folks recommend using EGTs rather than TITs. The concern is that you don’t want to operate any cylinder continuously at or near peak EGT (specifically exhaust valve temperature). TIT is an average of the ...

Re: Lancair ES - Steam Gauges to Dynon

Ryan I built my instrument panel with several AL “sub-panels” attached to the original fiberglass main panel. With appropriate wiring service loops, this allows me to remove sub-panels for servicing individual instruments or (more frequently) access behind them. Over the years, this has proven well ...

Re: Glide planning for Bahammas Trip

I found it easy to trim to and maintain a glide at 120 KIAS while recording data, etc, and the difference in glide range to be insignificant. Further, it took significant time and nose lowering to recover airspeed if it dropped below 110. So I’ve elected to stick with the widely-used 120 KIAS as bes...

Re: Glide planning for Bahammas Trip

Dan First of all, thanks for checking my math on descent rate versus altitude lost. I agree w your figures. I encourage every Lancair owner to evaluate the best glide performance in their airplane—with the prop at min pitch/max RPM. and again at max pitch/min RPM. It’s a good exercise and low risk—a...
