Re: Seemingly unrelated troubles
Dave, I can't say if, or how much of a factor, your aft CG may be, but I would say it doesn't help. Won't beat the "Aft CG = Bad" pony, however I will say they fly WAY better the further forward the CG is, (not to mention the CG moves about 2" aft when you retract the gear). There are...

Re: Seemingly unrelated troubles
If I’m reading you correctly, I would look at the auto trim. If pitch is out of trim it could cause the autopilot to “hunt” in pitch, if it gets too far out of trim the autopilot will disconnect. Just a thought as gear extension in my IV has a minimal trim change, flap extension somewhat more, but s...

Re: My IVPT (prop jet) Engine Failure on Takeoff Finally Discussed
Tom, Thanks for the reply and the background information regarding the reduced power technique. Got to love aviation, as there are always several ways to skin the cat. Like you, I look for that 800' AGL number every takeoff. For the non turbine folks, a return to base from an engine failure at 800' ...

Re: My IVPT (prop jet) Engine Failure on Takeoff Finally Discussed
Hi Tom, A tragic tale, sadly with out a definitive answer, the silver lining being you both walked away... One question if I might? You included the term, "reduced power takeoff" in your narrative. I'm quite familiar with the topic in regards to transport category aircraft, but never heard...

Re: N994PT (IVPT) in extensive rebuild now.
Tagging onto this thread only because it contains pictures of Turbine Power Tech personnel at Deland FL. I had the occasion to travel there earl this year, from Marathon FL, for some very minor maintenance. Flight took about 45-50 min, temps aloft were right at -10C. After arrival, Jose went to work...

Re: Boost Pump Overhaul
CJ Aviation representative was clueless, said they could overhaul this my pump. I’m sure they can, as I talked to another person, who quoted $1200 plus parts. Aeromotors was $700 flat rate. Turned it around in less then 7 days and it works great. My only complaint is, I can’t get a read on how the p...

Re: TKS on a IV-P?
Hey Ken, I have a IV-PT with TKS and I'm very happy with it. I don't want to bore people so I'll post this reply and if anybody want more details I'll be happy to respond. My TKS project started in Nov 2021 with ordering the kit from CAV Systems. I recall the kit cost about $23,000 at the time and t...

Shiny Spinner?thoughts
I just had my hub caps chromed, and they look great. This got me thinking about chrome plating my spinner. Years ago the knock on chromed spinners was they cracked, but yes, they sure do look better, (no matter how well you polish them). I'm wondering if this was just accepted knowledge, like never ...

The NEW Lancair
Curious if anybody has information regarding the status of Lancair Internationals transition? I haven’t heard a peep since their announcement last fall.
