Posting on behalf of Steven Hammer. He just had a nose gear collapse on his LNC4 and is looking for a replacement Hartzell 3-blade prop.

If you believe you can assist Steven, please email him at: n73sh@comcast.net

Hope Steven can find a prop and get up and running again.
I would be interested in the cause if it is known, and what upgrades had been incorporated into that scissors (ie SS bushings? bronze?) Just wondering if there could be yet another explanation for a nosegear collapse. Thanks.

Dave,
I just followed up with Steve Hammer on his Lancair IV nose gear collapse.
Steve had installed the new "forked" lower drag links designed by Conrad Huffstutler. His hydraulic system was working normally but the actuator had a small internal leak when tested. (IMHO, this should not have affected it's operation nor caused the collapse). Steve is re-checking the emergency extension gas spring, but either the hydraulic actuator OR the gas spring were designed to independently hold the nose gear down during landing. He's looking again for a cracked motor mount, but the initial assessment was "no cracks."
This one is a real head -scratcher...the first nose gear collapse that we've not been able to trace to a specific cause!! Steve promises to post anything else he discoveres about this, and he has found a new prop...
