All - if someone has a Legacy Nose fork available, have an owner with a bent one. Lancair is stating that they do not anticipate having one in stock until April or May. Any leads let me know. I know that Brad Simmons is pursuing having one fabricated

Hope the strut tube didn’t also get bent.

We think it did not. That is to be determined...

Realize it's been a bit for this post.
That looks like the thinner 360 fork. Does anyone know, when the Legacy first came out, did it start off with the same 360 fork, then subsequently get beefed up, or were the first Legacies equipped with the beefier fork from day 1? I realize the bolt pattern started out the same and changed later with the strut, I'm only referring to the shape and thickness of the fork and how it evolved. I'm making 360 forks right now, with Legacy and four place forks coming later.

AFAIK, early Legacies had this fork:
Later forks had a wider top flange, extending further aft of the strut mounting.
I think the strut was adapted from the Lancair IV, not the 360.
PS - yes, I know this strut has no flange clamp. I'll get one from Chris Zavatson soon, and also rebuild the strut with the new seals from Shane O'Day.

Legacy struts and flanges are one piece. - at least all the ones I've seen. That removes the one joint, but makes the part horrendously expensive. It is probably better to go back to separate tubes/flanges for replacement parts.wrote:

Bob, I think what you have there is the same fork as is/was recently sold by Lancair. Same thickness and look as one I have anyways. I didn't realize there were some where the flange attachment width was longer in the back, probably a bad idea, its too rigid already.
Someone must have put a 90's 360 fork on that plane. That's what it looks like anyways, 3" wide flange = strut flange. I've never seen one on a Legacy before, maybe the only thing that saved it from breaking the bolts off that strut flange. I get that the struts are expensive but running the early struts with AN4 bolts is probably not advisable on a Legacy, they break pretty easy, way before the latest beefy Legacy fork bends any meaningful amount, a whole other topic. I need to post some of my load data on that.

The flange in the first photo doesn't look as thick as in the second pic. Perhaps there are other differences.

To me that first photo looks like a typical 90's 360 fork.
