Hello LOBO Members and Wanna-Be’s, July/August 2023

For all aviators, you cannot beat this time of year. This year has been no exception!

EAA Oshkosh broke records in every category. The crowd sizes made it obvious that EAA & aviation in general is alive and well.

LOBO’s annual banquet at the Best Western Waterfront on Tuesday evening was a huge success with a capacity crowd. Andy Findlay, two-time Sport Class Reno champion excited the crowd with his talk on “Micro-knots and Manifold Pressure”. He was well received and everyone enjoyed his approach on how minor changes and tweaks to your engine or airframe can make such a difference… good or bad.

LOBO also emphasized their upcoming Landing event at Sunriver Oregon October 1-4th. You don’t want to miss this one. New this year... LOBO’s Landing will be in conjunction with Elite Pilot Services (EPS) Ground & Flight training event October 4-8th. By piggy-backing these two popular events we anticipate higher attendance this year for both organizations. Also, new this year, LOBO is offering single day registrations. Hurry... registration $$ increases by $200 on September 1st. Sign up ASAP at www.lancairowners.com . If you are a sponsor, board member or a flight instructor you must call me for your promo code prior to registering at 303-995-5501.

On other exciting news, LOBO announced they are bringing back by popular demand another Caribbean cruise. Royal Caribbean Cruise Company has offered a great 7 night package for only $1445/p (balcony) or $1056/p (outside view) and launching from Miami Florida on February 2, 2025. This will be on one of their newest and largest ships, The Symphony of the Seas. 25 cabins have already been blocked with these great rates. A $50 deposit is all that is required to hold your cabin and this terrific price. As of today, we already have 19 couples signed up! LOBO’s annual EAA Forum was held at the Homebuilders Hanger at 11:30 am Friday morning. We enjoyed a great crowd. Bob Pastusek gave an update on general Lancair maintenance with an emphasis on retractable nose gear over-center link issues and upgrades. Retractable nose gear problems continue to be one of our largest insurance claims. LOBO’s own chat forum known as “Lancair Live” (previously known as “LOBOLive”) was also discussed. It was emphasized that our new forum is NOT the same as the Lancair Talk chat forum owned by Paul Miller (previously known as the LML). LOBO stressed that folks need to understand the difference between these two chat rooms. Our members are always encouraged to review and post often on our “Lancair Live” platform prior to posting on others. We also encourage you to subscribe to our Lancair Live “daily digest” to stay on top of any new posts that come in each day. Jeff Edwards, Ph.D., ATP, and one of LOBO’s founding members shared our success story “From Worst to First”. It quantifies LOBO’s record of training and how the accident rates have steadily declined since inception in 2009. His report emphasizes again how important standardized initial and recurrent training can be. To date, there have been no U.S. fatal Lancair accidents for 26 months, and there have been no fatal Lancair Phase I accidents since AC 09-116 was release in 2014. Also, since the inception of the program there has never been a fatality of a documented pilot using the LOBO syllabi. Jeff’s report “From Worst to First” was also presented at the EAA annual type club coalition meeting. Additionally, it was a feature story in EAA’s own daily newspaper as well as another aviation magazine. This story needs to be told.

Help us broadcast this great news to all Lancair enthusiasts. Please understand LOBO is your organization and we are here for you!

Blue skies and tailwinds,

... George
