Well it had to happen, I've finally experienced a showstopper. The axle mount, (GM 455) on my right main gear has cracked, I have no idea how/why or even when. I'm pretty sure I would have seen this during preflights, but it jumped out at me yesterday in the hangar.

Questions for those in the group.
1. Obviously, does anybody have one they can part with or know of one, including aircraft in a salvage yard? Lancair International is still unavailable and will be for some time, I understand.
2. Has anybody heard of this before, or am I just that lucky?
3. My aircraft most likely has steel brake lines inside the gear legs, (all steel and braided lines else where, so I'm assuming). To those who have changed out their nylon lines, are there any gotcha's or hint/tricks to disassembling the lower gear leg and axle mount?
4. It appears to me that the axle mount can be installed on either the left or right side, can anybody confirm this?

Any other thoughts or inputs would be greatly appreciated.

I have never seen this type of failure and it makes me want to run to my hanger to check my airplane!! I suggest you contact Kim Lorentzen in Redmond OR. She has a very limited access to parts availability but you may get lucky.

Call me for her contact info.

You may also contact a machine shop to have one made. I am sure they could duplicate but it could get really expensive. Hopefully someone will chime in on this forum.

The real kick in the a$$ is the “New” Lancair International shows them available on their website. Not that expensive either. So I’ll assume there are some sitting in a box in Sacramento, unobtainable.

My next quest is for a Brake Line Removal Tool, as it’s referred to in the build manual. It’s used to reach down into the axle mount and unscrew/tighten the lower brake line fitting. Looks to be a socket mounted on a tube with a slot cut down one side. I’m sure I could fabricate one, but why reinvent the wheel if someone has one that works. Seems to me that it might not get used very often…. Hopefully.

If there is anybody here that has this tool willing to loan, rent or sell it to me, please let me know.

On the brake tool question... I think I have a total of 5 different homemade tool combos. There are more than one way to plumb the legs, and thus more than one fitting combination that might be inside the leg. Often the fittings at the top end of the line are a clue as to what you may have down inside. Just FYI...
