After validating all wiring to senors were good to the panel instruments it came down to configuration / programming of the VRD-10. After several consults with the manufacturer we were getting close but still couldn’t turn on the EIU in configuration, even after attempting to disable the FSM ( per instructions). On a thought, I disabled all fuel related aspects in configuration, backed out and reloaded. The units finally disconnected! At that point then the EIU was turned on in configuration and it held after backing out as well.
We looked at the display and every category of engine information now has an indicator arrow and zeros, confirming communication between the sensors and the display!! There is an ITT Alert, caused by the firewall plug to ITT Sensor wire removed to replace the solid core wire with Garmin recommended STRANDED (ordered and en route).
Moving on to the very short list before our Airworthiness Inspection!! Yaa!!

Everything is working instrument wise, as much as I can verify without running it. I'm hoping the GCU (Generator Control Unit) will work when we run it, since that wasn't wired the last go around. We ran new wiring for the ITT and have ambient temperature displaying the VRD Display. It turned out Garmin only allows stranded copper wire in any of their certified engine instrument installations for ITT and TIT; solid copper is highly discouraged. We replaced the solid copper with stranded and that was the fix. A side note on that, I was returning from Oshkosh the last year I displayed there, and my ITT failed on climb out. I later found it was the same solid copper wire that failed.
I've been bugging Joe for months to get back up here to run it. He wants to be there for the first run, which is kind of inaccurate anyway; I ran it myself last February, just before removing the engine for the Inspection by Quentin and new FCU. I just spoke with him today and he is currently scheduled to come up here on February 14th to run it.
