Hi all,
Just curious why Lancair specifies SAE 30 motorcycle fork oil for the nose strut. I thought most of the light fleet uses 5606. What's different about Lancairs?

Good Morning,
Per our Lancair Builders Manual 5606 is used to service your strut, however, it is the builders discretion to use the oil of their preference. It is also important to know what type oil your strut is serviced with in order to avoid cross contamination.

Oh, interesting, thanks. I was going by the "Method for Servicing Nose and Main Gear Struts" and the label on the strut. I'll check with the builder on what oil they used.
Where in the build manual does it specify 5606? I couldn't find it.
Best,
Konstantin

Motorcycle fork oil is preferred because it has anti-foaming additives. OTOH, this comes from the old assembly manual; I have not personally tested 5606.

I have never heard of 5606 being used in an Esco strut.
It is either 20 or 30 weight fork oil depending on damping needed.

Well I have been using 5606 in my Wolstenholme strut for the last ten years as that’s what they told me to use. Perhaps I am wrong?
Any news on that newer strut?
